The Critical Care Hospital has been architecturally designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding historic Court End district. The classically styled building of red brick creates a sense of strength and permanency, emphasizing VCU’s deep roots in the Richmond community.
The entry plaza at the end of Clay Street is a focal point, accommodating and guiding our many visitors. Expansive glass on the concourse level allows ample natural light and beautiful views of the Museum and White House of the Confederacy. In the main lobby, glazed panels trace the history of VCU from the early 1800s to the 1990s, honoring our traditions and celebrating our role in creating a vibrant, thriving Richmond. Clustered seating with comfortable chairs and loveseats creates a restful environment, complemented by soothing colors in blues, greens and tans.
